My name is Karl Mueller and One Mule Team . . . is my blog. I’m writing from Springfield, Oregon. One Mule Team . . . is about fishing, enjoying the outdoors, Oregon and conservation issues with maybe a little politics thrown into the mix now and again. The name comes from the fact that more than one friend has nicknamed me ‘the Mule,’ and I’ve embraced it. It’s obviously also a play on that icon of the American west: The Twenty Mule Team. I work in land use but my real love is getting out and enjoying some time outside alone, with my friends or with my family. This blog will hopefully allow distant family members to keep up with my exploits.
Hope you visit often and enjoy the posts.

You can link to the blog from our website.
Keep up the good work!

Hey Karl,
Just wanted to say how great it is to see a local website. I love the great pictures that you post and the stories behind them. You’re on my favorites list and I check every day for a new posting.
Thanks for all the great work!

Hi, Karl. Great post about fishing with Jaden. Sounds like you have a fine boy.
Interesting article this week about the judge who is about to decide (again) on the legality of the feds’ Columbia River Hydropower System Salmon Recovery Plan at
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008727079_redden10m.html
He’s an Oregon judge. I don’t think he fishes, but he’s been good for fish in the past. And thanks to the injunctive relief he ordered (against the feds’ objections), starting in 2006 BPA has had to crank up the spill during critical migration periods. This year’s good spring run Chinook are showing how well it works to give fish some running water . . .
Interesting piece about salmon science, as practiced by BPA, in recent High Country news. See

Hello Karl,
I just found your website and love it! All great stuff. Thanks for all the great information.
I’m disappointed that I missed the boat festival. I have a ‘67 15′ Keith Steele that I need to refinish but not sure how to proceed. Could you put me in touch with someone who is familiar with this boat? She’s pretty well checked now and has been out of the weather when not in use so no dry rot that I can see.

Hi Karl,
I was wondering if you know if we might have permission to use the Port Orford Cedar image by Mike Beagle on our Web site. We’d like to use it in association with a note about the new Copper Salmon Wilderness. We are a small family foundation that has supported the work of Oregon non-profits who advocated for the new Oregon Wilderness areas that were included in the Omnibus Public Lands Act earlier this year.
Thanks for your time,
Kathleen
